Are You a Wave?

James 1:2-8
2Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. 5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

I have to admit that I am fresh out of commentary today. Sometimes it is best that way. The only thing I can do is comb through these verses and take heart today in knowing that God is with me even when I don’t feel it. Please know that He is with you today, too!

These verses state so well what we need to do to live our lives for God. Verse 4 speaks of endurance. Some versions call it patience, steadfastness, going on. Any way this verse is expressed, it lets us know that when we press through the difficulties of life, He will not only be with us but will complete us. We will gain wisdom, maturity and understanding that only comes through experience. If we are struggling through the trials, verses 5-6 reminds us that we only need to ask God in faith, trusting that He will answer, and He will give us His wisdom. Do not allow yourself to go the way of one who is beaten and battered by the waves. Be loyal to Him alone, and He will help you through the troubles you encounter. Remember, His grace is enough for you today!
