Good Morning! Do you ever feel as though you lack the strength you need for the coming day? Many times I wake up feeling defeated. Maybe I didn’t sleep as well as I could have. Maybe I got in bed too late the night before and need a little more sleep. Maybe it’s rainy outside, and I know that rainy days usually affect my mood no matter how much I fight it. Whatever the reason, I am learning that just because I wake up feeling defeated does not mean that I am defeated. You se,e I serve the Living God, the One who dwells in me, the One who sacrificed His One and Only Son to take my punishment and offer me His grace.
No one deserves this grace. It is truly unmerited. We cannot earn it, and there is nothing we can do to make God love us more or less. He reminds us in His Word that he loves us. John 3:16-17 says “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” (NLT) In 1 John 4:7-10, God’s Word says “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” (NLT)
Now, I want to revisit the last statement of my introduction: I want you to embrace the gifting God has placed in your life and know that He will empower you to do what He has called you to do. God not only sacrificed His Son so we can be with Him in eternity, but to enjoy serving Him while here on the earth. Just as the different parts of our bodies have different functions that work together to make up our physical bodies, He has created all of us with different purposes to make His church, His people, complete. He didn’t jnst make eyes and right hands. He made every part of our bodies, and He gives each of us the gift to do our part in the body of Christ.
I know this is a lot of scripture, but I would like you to read the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 12. I have included it here n the New Living Translation:
“Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages. Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.” (NLT)
Do you see that He not only creates us with a specific purpose but He gives us the ability to perform the function He has created us to perform. That my dear brothers and sisters is God’s empowerment for your life! Listen to Him and know what His gift in you is. Once you identify that gifting, Embrace it with passion knowing that He will empower you!
In His Grace!
